Abstract

Antibacterial effect of five distinct antibiotics incorporated in polymethylmethacrylate bone cement on ten microorganisms, cultured from wound lesions was evaluated by disk diffusion technique. The most efficient and durable activity on S. Aureus was the cefazolin, whereas, the combination of sulbactam and cefaperazone achieved such an effect on gram-negative bacteria. Efficacy of imipenem had the shortest duration and bone cement without antibiotic demonstrated no antimicrobial activity.
